Sacred Journey to Ireland for Women

APRIL 17 - 26, 2008

In this journey, we will visit sacred sites associated with the goddesses Brigit and Maeve (known in Irish as Meadhbh). Brigit, as guardian of the threshold, will lead us into the journey as we start at her center in Kildare where we will experience the healing waters of her well and be inspired by the eternal flame lit in honor of her.   From there, we will travel into the Boyne Valley to the Hill of Tara, home to the Tuatha Dé Dannan, where we will meet with Maeve for the first time. She is best known now as the mythical warrior queen of Connacht, the province on the western side of Ireland, and one of the main characters in the early Irish epic Táin Bó Cuailnge (the Cattle Raid of Cooley). Maeve, as a sovereignty goddess, reminds us of our own power and passion.  As we journey with her into the west, to her seat of power at Cruaichain (Rath Croghan near Tulsk, Co. Roscommon), we will reclaim the deepest parts of ourselves.

We will then stay with Maeve in her domain near Sligo. The area around Sligo is dominated by the nearby hill of Knocknarea (Cnoc na Rí –Hill of the Kings) which is topped by Miosgán Mheadhbha, Maeve’s Cairn. She is reputed to be entombed in the cairn, battle ready to defend her domain. We will visit Knocknarea and ceremonially honor Maeve and our own inner power as we climb her cairn (conditions permitting).

After Sligo, we will travel to Brigit’s Gardens, west of Galway city. There we will work with Brigit to help us integrate our experience and to return back over the threshold to our lives, bringing with us what we have learned in our inner and outer journey.
